Traveling through books during COVID 19
COVID 19 has made physical travel come to a standstill. And what really is traveling? For us it is much more than sightseeing and taking pictures. It is about experiencing new cultures through its people, food and festivals. Knowing about its role in the history and how it got shaped by the winds of time. Sea and sky and all in between through its unique geology if any and lastly its quirk and uniqueness. This is everything I explore when I visit a new place, city or country.
In these times of Covid-19 since physical travel has come to a complete halt, I thought about sharing with you all a few books which take you through the latitudes and longitudes without moving an inch from your couch.
These books are ones my kids have enjoyed reaching both during our regular traveling days and during Covid. What’s really fascinating about these books is how they each bring one element of our travel explorations about different places in the world. While some talk about unique and quirky things you’ll find in different parts of the world, the others talk about the rich history and geography – linking it to evolution of the country through ages and the role it played in yesteryears. Yet another one, talks about the everyday life of children from all around the world, talking about the food they eat, games they play, vehicles they use, festivals they celebrate et al. So enjoy reading and knowing more about the world through the lens of these books and who knows the next time you travel to Japan, you end up experiencing the Sushi train yourself 🙂
- Everything & Everywhere: quirky and fun things about different countries. It talks about something unique in many cities all around the world and gives something our children can look forward to seeing whenever we get to visit the place, in person.
- This is how we do it: Culture from different countries: dresses, festivals and games. This book brings to life a day in life of kids from different parts of the world and though their eyes, shows the cultures and a slice of life in those places.
- The Lonely Planet Kids Travel Book: A journey through every country in the world: this could have been a mini travel encyclopedia for kids. Takes you on a world tour of 200 countries, loaded with thousands of amazing facts on wildlife, how people live, sports, hideous and mouthwatering food, festivals and a wide range of other quirky insights. There is a page dedicated to each country. Stunning photography, beautiful illustrations and the kid friendliness of the content brings each country to life.
