In Other Rooms other wonders

In Other Rooms other wonders, is a collection of short stories from Daniyal Mueenuddin from Pakistan.

In these times of no physical travel, I decided to go back in time to revisit my 10yr younger self and her travels through books. As Jumpa Lahiri had written in Namesake: Books are for traveling without moving an inch. Of all the books I had read during that time, I’m picking up my musings of some which took me to distant places, cultures and experiences. Hope you enjoy it!

The beauty of these stories is that it somehow traverses not just the geography of Pakistan but also the time. Depicting the divide of haves and have-nots while knitting the basic human nature, needs and desires in the stories has been done beautifully. The stories take you back in time and take you to the distant lands of Pakistani Punjab, Multan and Lahore. At the same time, some stories also depict the Pakistan as of today. All in all a very enjoyable book. Also because that is a perspective I haven’t read much.

Talking about India and Pakistan, take a look at Shadow Lines by Amitav Ghosh – a book that beautifully captures partition from perspectives of different people. Best part, its not about India Pakistan.

P.S: The featured image of this photo is in no way related to the book or the country/ place the book talks about as Indians cannot get Pakistan visas for a tourist visit.
