The Maharajas Seychelles: For a royal Indian feast
The Maharajas Seychelles is highly recommended if you are craving for an Indian restaurant in Seychelles. It is one of the best and probably, one of the only Indian vegetarian restaurants in Seychelles.
Check out the perfect 5 day itinerary for Seychelles
Cuisine: North Indian (both vegetarian and non-vegetarian)
Being an Indian restaurant in Seychelles, it serves up good North Indian fare and better than our expectations. It comes closest to being an Indian vegetarian restaurant in Seychelles.
Location: Eden Islands
Eden Islands is close to Victoria (World’s smallest capital) in Mahe Island and is easily accessible by road.
There is enough parking right next to the restaurant and since it is on Google maps, navigation is easy.
The restaurant also does home delivery albeit within Eden Islands only
Our Order:
Paneer and Chhole or Dal was a given, this being an Indian restaurant in Seychelles.
Pindi Chhole: Well made, no pungent aromas and tastefully spicy
Paneer Butter Masala: gravy was average at best, although paneer was quite soft and fresh. No matter where we go, we always order a paneer gravy dish and The Maharajas Seychelles was no exception
Dal tadka: Well cooked and good tadka
Butter Naan: Soft, average size as Naan usually is
Tandoori Roti: Soft again and a little bigger than average size
Aloo Parantha: Very soft, well stuffed and was like just a tad smaller than a naan. They were more of tandoori aloo kulcha than a paratha but quite delicious. My kids finished off all the 4 pieces in one sitting
We did not order any starters, drinks or deserts
Service:
Not particularly swift in service and probably that’s part of the charm too (like everything in Seychelles). Serving with a smile totally holds and the staff did not raise an eyebrow with our messy kids.
Unlike in many kid friendly places (Pizza express comes to mind), you will not find anything to keep the kids busy. Finding an Indian vegetarian restaurant in Seychelles was tough, so we were not finicky about these things.
Ambience:
The Maharajas Seychelles, has both an outdoor and an indoor space spread over a large enough area (by Seychelles standards).
The outside area is overlooking the yatch marina and is a nice and sunny (and shaded) place to sit.
They have tried to create the Indian ambience with some jharokhas, earthen and brass pots and pans, old daggers, murals and some ethnic paintings. The decor inside is primarily red and with a touch of royal inline with the name. Contemporary and punjabi Bollywood music in the background was a mismatch but the food quite made up for it.
Cost for 6 (including 2 kids): SCR 1000 only (EUR 60)
(this was meals only with no starters, drinks or deserts)
Rating on Tripadvisor:
Rated 4.0 with a certificate of excellence;
